Lord's palanquin-bearer's jacket. A palanquin is a covered carriage for one passenger, consisting of a large box carried on two horizontal poles. Tsutsugaki 筒描 (paste resist dye technique) fabric. The chartreuse color of this piece was likely achieved by using a pigment derived from the bright yellow inner bark of the amur cork tree (黄蘗), or Kihada, and iron powder (硫酸第一鉄), Ryusandai ichitetsu.
